Ola: Ben, it’s ten past one. Are you having lunch or answering emails?
Ben: Both. I’m multitasking. It’s a skill.
Ola: You’ve been holding the same sandwich for five minutes. I don’t think it’s going anywhere.
Ben: Very funny. A client sent me three messages last night and I didn’t reply until this morning. I feel terrible.
Ola: Last night? When exactly?
Ben: Around eleven.
Ola: Ben, at eleven p.m. I’m asleep. Or watching a series. Definitely not checking my inbox.
Ben: Lucky you. My phone is basically part of my hand.
Ola: Well, maybe this will help. Have you heard about the pilot? From next month the company is trying a four-day week. Same pay, Fridays off.
Ben: Fridays off? That sounds too good to be true. What’s the catch?
Ola: We have to hit the same targets in four days. And there are two new rules: no internal messages after six, and anything urgent goes through one emergency number.
Ben: No messages after six? Then how will anyone know how hard-working I am?
Ola: By your results, not by your timestamps.
Ben: Fair enough. But what if I fall behind?
Ola: That’s the point of the trial. We cut pointless meetings, we prioritise, and HR measures our stress levels and productivity for three months.
Ben: Pointless meetings… like the weekly meeting where we plan our other meetings?
Ola: Exactly. That one’s already gone.
Ben: Okay, now I’m interested. So what would you do with your Fridays?
Ola: A pottery class. I’ve wanted to try it for years. What about you?
Ben: Honestly? Sleep. And then maybe learn how to switch off. Is there a course for that?
Ola: There is. It’s called „put your phone in a drawer”.
Ben: That sounds a bit extreme.
Ola: You’ll survive. So, are you going to sign up?
Ben: Let me check my calendar… Oh. I’ve got a call with a client on Friday at four.
Ola: Ben!
Ben: Relax, I’m joking. I’ll move it to Thursday. See? I’m already prioritising.
Ola: Well, well. There’s hope for you yet.
Ben: Don’t tell anyone. I’ve got a reputation to protect.
