Emma: So, we’ve agreed on the apartment, the furniture, and even the colour of the sofa. I think we’re doing pretty well!

Jack: Absolutely. Living together is going to be amazing. Just imagine coming home to a nice, clean apartment and a delicious dinner.

Emma: Sounds wonderful. Who’s making this delicious dinner?

Jack: Well… I thought you liked cooking.

Emma: I do. I also like holidays in Italy, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to organise one every evening.

Jack: Okay, okay! I can cook too. I make excellent scrambled eggs.

Emma: Jack, we’re planning to live together for years, not survive a three-day camping trip.

Jack: Fine. We’ll share the cooking. You do Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. I’ll do Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Emma: And weekends?

Jack: We order pizza?

Emma: Actually, that’s the smartest thing you’ve said today.

Jack: See? We’re already a great team.

Emma: Now, cleaning. I think we should divide the housework equally.

Jack: Of course! I’m a modern man. I believe in equality.

Emma: Excellent. So you can clean the bathroom.

Jack: Wait. The bathroom? I thought equality meant we both get to choose what we enjoy doing.

Emma: Nobody enjoys cleaning the toilet, Jack. That’s why it’s called housework, not a hobby.

Jack: Fair point. But I could take care of all the technical stuff. You know, fixing things, changing light bulbs, assembling furniture.

Emma: How often do you think light bulbs need changing? Every Tuesday?

Jack: You never know. We might have a very unreliable electrical system.

Emma: Nice try. And what about laundry?

Jack: Easy. We buy a washing machine.

Emma: Brilliant. And does the washing machine magically collect dirty socks from under the bed?

Jack: Not yet. But technology is developing very quickly.

Emma: Jack!

Jack: I’m joking! I’ll do the laundry. Although I should warn you, my white shirts sometimes come out pink.

Emma: That’s because you wash them with your red football socks.

Jack: See? You already know more about laundry. Maybe you should—

Emma: Finish that sentence very carefully.

Jack: …teach me how to do it properly?

Emma: Much better.

Jack: Seriously, though, we both work full-time. I don’t want you doing everything just because you’re a woman.

Emma: Good. And I don’t expect you to fix everything just because you’re a man. We can both learn.

Jack: Deal. We’ll split the chores depending on how busy we are each week.

Emma: Perfect. One last thing. Who’s going to take out the rubbish?

Jack: Whoever fills the bin.

Emma: Interesting. Because according to your current system, the bin is never full. You just keep pushing everything down.

Jack: That’s not laziness. That’s advanced space management.

Emma: Welcome to living together, Jack.

Jack: I’m starting to think we should’ve got separate apartments.

Emma: Too late. I’ve already ordered the pink sofa.

Jack: PINK?!

Emma: Relax. I’m joking.

Jack: Thank goodness.

Emma: It’s purple.
